TREE PRUNING

Pruning is the most common tree maintenance practice, and at Dean’s Tree Care we always think about the well-being and health of your trees first. We work with homeowners to achieve their goals. Pruning is very tree specific and knowledge of the tree being pruned is crucial. Using the American National Standards Institute (ANSI A300) tree pruning practices as our guide, proper cuts and methods are achieved to improve or maintain the health and vigor of your trees.

There are many reasons pruning is desired:
  • Removing dead, diseased or dying branches
  • Training and promoting proper structure
  • Crown thinning to increasing air and sunlight to help prevent disease
  • Controlling shape and size for aesthetic value or area provided
  • Influencing flower and fruit production
  • Hedging to maintain a consistent landscape
  • Weight reduction on limbs to reduce stress
  • Clearance pruning from structures, residential power lines or view
PLANT HEALTHCARE PESTS AND DISEASES

In the urban environment there are many pest problems and diseases affecting trees, some can be deadly. In most cases a healthy tree can fight off pests and diseases. Stressed trees have a much harder time protecting themselves. These trees are much more susceptible to disease because insects tend to target them. There are many ways that a tree can become stressed. Root damage due to construction or nutrient deficiencies, storm damage, improper pruning and much more.

Dean’s Tree Care specializes in the health and safety of trees and we treat many pests and diseases with the following methods:
  • Preventative measures to control stress
  • Early detection and proper diagnosis
  • Frequent monitoring
  • Proper treatment selection.
TREE REMOVAL

At Dean’s Tree Care we always view removal as a last resort, but when it is the only or best option for the tree, there is no job too big or small. We can dismantle any size tree from any location efficiently and safely. Leaving the site clean and free of all debris.

BRUSH REMOVAL

Brush removal involves taking unwanted branches and wood from your property and cleaning the site. Wood chips can be left on site for use in your garden.

STUMP REMOVAL

Using a stump grinder we can grind away stumps and roots leaving behind mulch. If desired the mulch can be taken away and replaced with grass or a new tree.

SHRUB PRUNING

Tree and shrub pruning although very similar techniques are used, they can vary in many different ways. Pruning shrubs properly can maintain health and vigour of your plants and increase their lifespan. Consistent pruning can maintain landscape for years

Dean’s Tree Care offers many services for shrubs:
  • Removing dead, diseased or dying branches
  • Rejuvenating and restructuring
  • Thinning to increase airflow and sunlight
  • Clearance from structures, obstacles or view
  • Hedging to maintain a consistent landscape
CABLING AND BRACING

Cabling or bracing a tree requires installing hardware such as steel or synthetic cables, bolts and treaded rods into a tree. It is best done as a preventative measure by limiting tree branches and stems from reaching the point of breaking. Some trees that have cracks can be repaired and secured with cables and braces, but this is not always the case. There are trees that are prone to genetic defects that can ultimately lead to stem failure. Norway Maples (Acer platanoides) often grow with a co-dominate stem which can create included bark. This means, two stems that grow very close to one another, push each other apart meaning later on in life this can cause the tree to ultimately break apart. Pruning when the tree is young can be the best option, but often cables will help support the tree.

FERTILIZING AND CULTURAL AMENDMENTS

Most issues that cause tree stress are abiotic (non-living) such as; too much water, drought, construction damage, storm damage, etc. When a tree is stressed it is much more susceptible to disease and pests, because of its lack in vigor and can be in an overall state of decline. Cultural changes are an alteration to the environment the tree is in. Adding nutrients to soil, mulching, improving drainage or compacted soils, even proper watering can greatly improve a trees overall health. The most overlooked aspect of tree care is soil issues. After just a few years with poor drainage, a tree can become stressed and decline, and result in being a much bigger target for pests. Without treating the drainage issue, the tree will be a constant place for other pests to infest. Fertilizing trees is an excellent way to keep them healthy. The urban environment lacks vital nutrients that a forest provides and the only way a tree in your backyard can get a constant supply of nutrients is to add them yourself.

Deans Tree Care provides many cultural services, including:
  • Fertilizing
  • Mulching
  • Vertical Mulching for drainage or compacted soil
  • Root Collar Excavating for trees planted too deep
  • Tree Protection Zone
  • And Much More
STORM DAMAGE PRUNING

Pruning storm damage is critical for the safety of anyone on your property. Broken branches and torn shoots can be unpredictable, and they can also affect the health your tree as well as being very unsightly. Splits in the bark and broken shoot tips promote improper growth that is unappealing and over time hazardous due to the lack of strength within the tree.

Trees with any amount of storm damage would benefit from pruning:
  • Removing broken and hazardous limbs
  • Repairing broken or torn stubs and shoots to promote proper growth, structure and overall health of the tree
  • Maintaining aesthetic value of your trees and landscape
